The Inter-American Bar Foundation (IABF) is a non-profit organization created in 1957 under the laws of Pennsylvania. Its main objectives are:

  • To foster and maintain the honor and integrity of the profession of the law.

  • To study, improve and facilitate the administration of justice in the Western Hemisphere.

  • To promote the comparative study of the common and civil law.

  • To publish and to distribute writings of particular interest to the Inter-American legal world.

  • To promote legal research.

  • To promote suitable standards for legal education.

The IABF was created by very illustrious jurists from the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, United States of America, and Uruguay. Their names, many of which still resonate in their respective countries, can be seen in the IABF creation documents.
